Shipping calculated at checkout.
Description
Spinning kit box includes:
fiber Cotton 1 oz USA upland cotton sliver
1 hand-painted wood support bowl (3" diameter) *GRAY*
1 brass Tahkli Support Spindle (6 5/8" length). In a brown gift box.
Note: The wood bowls are hand painted, heat dried, clear coated and heat dried again. While the paint should be set and not chip off, you may find after using your tahkli / bowl for an extended period that you see marks in the bottom of the bowl. As with any surface that has a sharp point run over it, scratch marks are to be expected. This kit is meant to be introduction of materials into your exploration of cotton / spinning cotton.
I encourage you to try the traditional tahkli / support bowl in the kit and then branch out. You may find that you prefer a support bowl made from porcelain or glass; or a lap bowl that you hold between your knees; or even a hip bowl that is held on with a belt. There are many items / materials that can be used to spin cotton and other cellulose fibers and I hope you try them all. As for this kit, try the small amount of cotton, feel, touch and explore and then come back for more fiber. You will find I have several varieties in my store. Each will offer you a different experience. Have fun spinning cotton and I hope you come to enjoy these fibers as much as I do.
These naturally USA grown cotton slivers are great for carding, spinning, knitting, and fiber arts --- the list goes on and on the many things you can make with the fiber. Have fun using this bast fiber to learn to spin. The hand-painted support bowl and brass support spindle are great tools to spin bast fibers.
This kit is ready to ship now.
♻ Have fun upcycling this into your new project. ♻
